My Ancestor series came from an art residency in Ireland at the Cill Rialaig village in Ballinskelligs in 2013. We were immersed in an area of ancient history and legends. The bones of old round houses created maps of a life long ago lived. For me there was the feeling of these stones arranged and creating a womblike entrance to an abode that was safe from marauding tribes and animals.
Ma série Ancestor est née d’une résidence artistique en Irlande au village de Cill Rialaig à Ballinskelligs en 2013. Nous étions immergés dans une région d’histoire ancienne et de légendes. Les os des anciennes maisons rondes créaient des cartes d’une vie vécue il y a longtemps. Pour moi, il y avait la sensation de ces pierres disposées et créant une entrée semblable à un ventre d’une demeure à l’abri des tribus et des animaux en maraude.

The Ring Fort. In Ireland we stayed at Cill Rialaig in a pre famine cottage on the Atlantic coast.
All about us were the ancient remains of other civilisations.
We walked the footprint of the ring forts, mapping them, and it seemed like the drawings of these maps were womb like,
which is perhaps signifiant in ancient civilisations to honour and feel safe with the mother.
