She comes from Papua New Guinea. We worked there in the Port Moresby University for a short time in 1992,
before riots threatened our family safety and we were forced to leave.
Traditional women in PNG would wear a net over their head when one of their loved ones died.
When we left Port Moresby we were so traumatised by the events of that time that I felt grief for a long time afterwards.
This little sculpture expresses grief, frustration and a strange lack of connection to the real world. She wears a net over her head.
