Le cheval et le cavalier sont un thème évolutif important dans l’œuvre de Nunan. Influencée au départ par d’anciennes sculptures de chevaux suédoises, des céramiques chinoises et l’artiste italien Marino Marini, elle a créé son cheval et ses cavaliers pour représenter le voyage dans la vie. Chaque étape de sa vie a donné naissance à un nouveau cheval et à un nouveau cavalier. Nunan considère symboliquement le cheval et le cavalier comme une union symbiotique de l’esprit et de l’ego. Ses premiers chevaux étaient beaucoup plus fins et légers que les cavaliers plus lourds, mais de plus en plus, le cheval est plus fort et plus qu’égal dans le partenariat.
Reflétant le passage à travers la vie, ‘Arrival’ est apparu après une période de grande endurance et, avec cette sculpture, Nunan fait souvent référence au sentiment d’avoir atteint le sommet d’une montagne. Le sentiment d’arrivée donne une grande impression de calme et de tranquillité avec une vue d’ensemble du passé et la vue devant soi splendide, les possibilités infinies.

The Horse and Rider is a significant evolving theme in Nunan’s work. With early influences from old Swedish horse carvings, Chinese ceramics and the Italian artist Marino Marini, she has created her horse and riders to represent the journey through life. Each plateau in her life has brought forth a new Horse and Rider. Nunan symbolically regards the Horse and Rider as a symbiotic union of spirit and ego. Her earlier horses were a lot finer and lighter than the heavier riders, more and more the horse is stronger and more than equal in the partnership. 

Reflecting the passage through life, Arrival’ emerged after a time of great endurance and with this sculpture Nunan often refers to the sense that she had climbed to the top of a mountain. The feeling of arrival gave a great sense of calm and tranquility with an overview of the past and the view ahead splendid, the possibilities endless.
