The warrior, or Viking, was inspired from a time living in south western Ireland, county Kerry. The history of the area is steeped in stories of the vikings and the monks. Sitting on the cliffs over the months we were there, one easily saw the great boats emerging out of the mists.
In this sculpture of the Warrior, the Viking, his huge horned helmet is also a boat form, reminiscent of the journey he has taken. His face painted red, is a symbol of his strength and courage and committed purpose to expand his world, in his powerful passionate energy is the will to grow.
There is also a lovely Miro-esque sense of play in this sculpture.
