Gallery Cartwright

After forty years of continual art practice, Michael Cartwright’s art language has its own distinct signature, challenging the conventional mores of beauty and its conflict with the juxtaposition of play and provocative judgement of man’s place on earth and in the universe.  Strong richly coloured forms often balance precariously on top of another, identifying his themes of the balance of life and urge for freedom and flight, the sense of being on the edge. And yet that edginess also expresses a pure joy in the moment of being, with no knowledge of the next step but a certainty that it exists.
